As Advisor-Mom, I am:

  • a proud, first-generation college student,
  • one of a handful in my extended family with a Master’s Degree,
  • a mom to a daughter currently in college,
  • a wife who helped get her spouse through their undergraduate degree.

I’ve worked at a college as a mentor, academic advisor, and adjunct faculty since 2009.  I left the advising job but retained my faculty positions and I teach college freshmen.

Everything in this section of the blog has posts for parents with kids in middle school, high school, college, or for people still finding their path.  I want to share all the tips and tricks I’ve learned (in my 11 years of working in higher education and decades of my own trial-and-error) to help save you time, money, and frustrations.

We moved our daughter into her college room yesterday.  Friends keep telling me that “she’s not far away” in an attempt to make me feel ….
