To Tell You The T.R.U.T.H

(Think.Real.Understanding.Through.Honesty)

I have realized that the information we get about college is coming at us with two scoops of bias and agenda mixed in. The high schools tell you one thing that “helps” you but also helps them get A+ ratings, fancy statistics, etc. And the colleges tell you things that they want you to know and/or believe so that you’ll pick that college to spend your dollars. Who is out there to give you the truth without an agenda? Who answers your questions so you can decide what is right for you and your family? Who can equip you to know what questions you should ask so that you can do what makes the most sense (and minimizes time and money spent) to you?

Me. I just left my job of 10 years in higher education where I spoke to prospective students and their families about our campus and our degree programs, and I spoke to students and guests at new student orientation about how to understand the degree requirements, and I taught a semester-long course on how to be a successful student. I have 10 years of watching students, thousands of students, and being a guide on their journey. I LOVED working in higher education! However, as the years went by and I saw more and more students bringing in dual credit or AP credit from high school that they didn’t need, or picking majors because their parents/uncles/teachers told them it was best to get a good job or because they themselves had found success there, or seeing students end up on probation because they didn’t learn how to study in high school…I decided I wanted to talk to students and parents before they made it to my door or department on campus. I want to help them make better choices and ask better questions ahead of time. No one around was going to tell them the truth without having a personal agenda. Well, no one is paying me to tell you anything, so I’m free to help any and everyone that I can to set them up for maximum success!

I used my insider knowledge so that my own/only child (now about to finish freshman year of college) to make the best decisions for her and I want to expand that reach to as many as I can.
