Thanks for everything!

Thanks for everything!

So today was my last day getting paid as an academic advisor. I had six advising appointments, a meeting, a little going away party, and hanging out with two of my favorite students for a bit gushing over our shared love of –doodle dogs (they each have a Labradoodle and I have a Goldendoodle). It was a very nice day. Some of my friends across campus took time out of their day/Friday to come and say bye and share a hug.

This 10-year stint in higher education has taught me a great deal about the faculty/staff side of college, about myself, about the world and politics of a university and has allowed me to meet some amazing and fantastic people. I can’t even imagine the number of people I’ve met during campus visits with prospective students, summer orientation, parents, guests, professors, deans, and other staff. I have been so fortunate to have developed some deep friendships, scores of casual and fun friendships, as well as having gained brother, sister, and mom relationships with several. Although I won’t miss the pace of college (slow-moving changes and then the seemingly neverending appointments or walk-ins during priority registration), I will miss the people. I carry them with me as I go on to my next adventure.

I might return to higher education to teach a class here or there, but it won’t be like it has been and that’s okay. I appreciate all I learned and from whom I learned it. You all have been a part of my journey and I am humbled to have been a part of yours.

We’re in this together.

🙂
